Post Chemo (5/11/2005)

Hi All,
Sorry for the delay, but we have been having some computer glitches.  Or it may be computer operator problems, either way we're back in business again.  I did well for about 36 hours after my first chemo treatment and then the air went out of my balloon.  Thankfully I had no nausea, the new medication they gave me worked like a charm.  The exhaustion I felt was unbelievable though.  I can never remember a time in my life that I felt like I could not put one foot in front of the other, but I could hardly get out of bed until Tuesday morning.  All is much better now.  No appetite to speak of, but I'm doing my best to eat well.  I got my blood counts this morning from the doctor and the chemo really zapped my immune system.  I feel fine, but my white blood count is very low and I need to be very careful about what I eat and where I go for a few days so that I don't get an infection.  They will give me a drug called Neulasta by injection 24 hours after my next treatments that will help my counts to stay up a little more.  Bob and I are doing OK with all of this and the Lord has been faithful to sustain us and give us grace to face each new challenge.
My friend, Celestia is doing fairly well with her weekly chemo and is having another body scan today to see how her recurrence is reacting to the treatments.  Please remember her and her husband Ed as you pray.  BLESSING: that there are new drugs out there to help Celestia and that she gets one week off of chemo every 3 weeks to rest and recover.
My friend Suzi got the results of her last scan .  BLESSING: they showed no recurrence of her cancer, but she does still have some infection in her lungs that they are treating.  Suzi and Jim(her husband) will be going on a much anticipated cruise this week and she will also be looking into a new drug study in Seattle, Washington.  Please pray that they will be rested and renewed while they are away and that she may be eligible for the new study,  My friend Judy, who had a bone marrow transplant 6 months ago just got her bone marrow biopsy results back.  BLESSING:  she remains cancer free and is doing well.  Please pray that her immune system continues to strengthen and that she and Greg(her husband) have God's peace.  Judy & Greg, Celestia&Ed and Suzi&Jim have been such a comfort to Bob and I during this time.  The Lord has had His hand in all of this and we are ever mindful of His tender guidance.  I read a prayer in one of my books last night and I plan to put it on my refrigerator door so that I can see it often during the day.  "How grateful I am for all my yesterdays.  I will take pleasure in the moments of today and, blessed Lord, I rejoice in the hope of whatever is Your perfect plan for each of my tomorrows."  Faye Angus
Since I had so many blessings to share with you today I want to share a hymn also.
There Shall Be Showers of Blessing
There shall be showers of blessing: This is the promise of love; There shall be seasons refreshing, Sent from the Savior above.  There shall be showers of blessing, Precious reviving again;  Over the hills and the valleys, Sound of abundance of rain.  There shall be showers of blessing:  Send them upon us, O Lord;  Grant to us now a refreshing, Come, and now honor thy Word.  There shall be showers of blessing:  Oh, that today they might fall,  Now as to God we're confessing, Now as on Jesus we call.  Showers of blessing, Showers of blessing we need:  Mercy drops round us are falling, But for the showers we plead.

God bless each of you this day and always,
                                                                                                             Sandy
